20.10.2025 | A Taste of Edible Neighbourhood Rijnvliet

This summer, on Sunday July 29, Marnix and Robert-Jan were invited to the opening celebration of the Edible Neighbourhood Rijnvliet foundation. Together with fellow initiators, they were warmly thanked for their inspiring design, one that quite literally feeds the community every day.

Rijnvliet is no ordinary neighbourhood. It’s a living landscape in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht, where streets, squares and parks grow into an urban food forest. A place where fruit trees line the paths, herbs grow in public gardens, and neighbours come together to harvest, cook, and connect.

Thanks to the shared effort of the municipality, residents and designers, Rijnvliet now counts over 1,000 fruit trees and 200 edible plant species. It’s a vibrant example of how city life and nature can thrive side by side, strengthening local ecosystems, cooling the city, and creating space for people to reconnect with the seasons.

We’re proud to have contributed to this delicious piece of Utrecht.
Edible Neighbourhood Rijnvliet was designed by Marnix and Robert-Jan at Felixx Landscape Architects and Planners in close collaboration with Xavier San Giorgi, commissioned by the Municipality of Utrecht.
